White Sturgeon Trip Aug 2017
« on: August 29, 2017, 01:53:22 AM »
I have been a little lazy with pictures this year and haven't had too many trips worth reporting on but this last weekend was a good one!

Some may already know that MichaelAngelo has been doing a cross country exploration/kayak fishing trip. A few weeks ago he messaged me showing some interest in white sturgeon and wondering about how he could try to target one.

I said pick a weekend and I will meet you out there so that is what we did and the fishing did not disappoint. Between the 2 of us we landed 4 sturgeon over 7 feet including my new personal best of 7' 6". Next time I get out there all I got to say is bring on the 8+ fters!

Anyways here are a few pictures. Hopefully MichaelAngelo shares a few of his other pictures too cause he has caught some cool fish on his trip.

How did you get enough resistance to be able to play out, and land those bigger ones from a kayak,
 without going to shore ?
Know Wayne use to use a big kick ass anchor and a mooring ( big ) buoy, that he good clip and unclip his kayak to. Know being technical, and no one is putting a 7 foot sturgeon in their yak.

We use about a 20-25 lb jet boat anchor and a 15 inch buoy and stay on anchor to fight the fish. You can't fight them off anchor because there are too many snags, nets and other boats around to cause issues so the only time we come off anchor is if we absolutely have to(run out of line on a big fish).
