Decal tape measure
« on: July 11, 2011, 10:18:32 PM »
I am looking for a tape measure I can stick to my yak. Something like a decal. Live in Halifax area and have tried staples, michaels, wally world, canadian tire...saw a flexible thin aluminum one, thought I could glue it down...anyone have any ideas...

I've used a cloth measuring tape and used sealant to keep it on.  That lasts for a while but they start to come off after a while.  I'm thinking of trying it with marine goop.

There are a couple of companies that do sell tape measure stickers.  I've seen them in Canadian Tire.

I re-used a tape that I had on my sit inside. Just gooped it to the footwell of the Tarpon, it's been there for probably 30+ trips so far

Unless they're now sold out, the WM in lower sackville had some of the 36" stickers in stock a week or so ago.  They're fairly wide too which makes it easier to see in pics.  I think they're either the Berkley or Rapala ones.

I've not had much success getting them to stick.  However, I was sticking on the top of my Trident 13 rod pod, and it isn't a smooth surface, so it's not a fair example.  They might stick fine to a smooth surface.  I've tried both Bluefox and Rapala and there was no appreciable difference in the effectiveness of the glue.  Perhaps a coating of marine goop would keep them on better.

You can pick it up at any Canadian Tire.

It is the last one inthe picture.
I believe it is 36".

I have one stuck on my paddle shaft and it sticks good there.  I don't know what it would be like trying to stick it the yak itself.  A word of caution though, if you put it on your paddle shaft and try using it for AOTY photos, Jeff'll get all snippy and tell you to get a better measuring device (lol) ;D unless you're a better photographer than I am .... which wouldn't be too hard to do.

Thanks guys....I live in Bedford and have only looked Canadian Tire in Dartmouth Crossing...check it out today and see. I like the idea of sticking on a smoother surface like the paddle shaft....still learning so not competing for AOTY. more for personal info. If I don't find one I might take you up on it Ouird!
