Using a clothes iron to smooth deep guages on kayak bottoms
« on: August 28, 2018, 09:23:09 AM »
Has anyone tried this?
I saw it on a youtube video.

Sanding would smooth the surface too but would thin the plastic somewhat.

Carefully using a hot iron seems better (unless so hot that it damaged the plastic) to keep the same amount of material, but melt ridges into scratch/grooves.

Has anybody done that?

Ive never done that, but I like the scratches.  Maybe when I sell it I'll do it, but until then, I accumulate scratches on a regular basis.

I don't worry about scratches but if I did want to do something about it I would do something similar to the following video rather then just smudging around the bottom of my kayak.
