Ocean Kayak Trident 15 – By: Paul Brown (Ppaauull0)
99% of my kayak fishing is on saltwater, I live near the Bay of Fundy and the Minus Basin which has the biggest tides in the world so I needed a kayak that would be safe in those conditions. It needed to be fast, light enough to put on my car and also be able to take plenty of gear for the odd camping trip. There was a lot of choice, most kayak companies make kayaks that meet those requirements but in the end I opted for the OK Trident 15. Its a big beast at over 15ft long but only weighs 60lbs so its easily car toppable, it has plenty of in hull space for camping gear, spare clothes, dry bag etc. On the water it is excellent, very fast but also very stable ( I can easily stand up on it in calmer waters) and being over 15ft long tracks very straight in normal conditions. It does although wind-cock badly in cross winds so a rudder is on the cards for this season. It has a large tankwell, rear flush mounted rod holders, rod pod, sonar shield and battery bag. If you are in the market for a fast, light kayak most at home on large lakes or the open sea you cannot go wrong with this kayak.
